Beach, Early Portraits

For decades I have been documenting communities of seasonal and year-round inhabitants on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. Many of my subjects over the years became dear friends. Many became repeat subjects spanning over decades.

Note: My first explorations of Aquinnah Beach started in 1988. Both the town and beach went by the name of Gay Head before 1997. By the end of 1997 the town changed its name to Aquinnah, Wampanoag for “Land Under the Hill.”
